Airlines

China Eastern Airlines has applied to the U.S. Department of Transportation for thrice-weekly Kunming-Qingdao-San Francisco A330-200 traffic rights from September. Read More » Emirates Airline has signed a $300 million, ten-year technology services agreement with IBM, including assistance in encrypting the airline's data in near real-time and systems which allow different software components to communicate more effectively. Garuda Indonesia president, Arif Wibowo, said the airline is not ready to place a firm order for 30 B787s or 30 A350s. He was doubtful a decision would be made before next month’s Farnborough International Airshow. Qatar Airways will receive its 30th B787 “in the next weeks”, said Boeing vice-president for international sales, Martin A. Bentrott. South Korea’s Jin Air has signed interline agreements with Cambodia Angkor Air, Lao Airlines and Island Air of Hawaii, following a commitment in April to a similar interline agreement with budget group, Jetstar.

GDSs

Global Distribution Systems (GDS) company, Amadeus, has become the first in the industry to receive the highest level of New Distribution Capability (NDC) certification, level 3, from the International Air Transport Association.

ICBC Financial Leasing has delivered another B737-800 on operating lease to Xiamen Airlines, ICBC’s 300th aircraft to date.

MRO

ST Aerospace Guangzhou last week celebrated 50 aircraft redeliveries from its southern China airframe maintenance facility to AirAsia. 

Global engine maintenance company, MTU Maintenance, and new customer, Garuda Indonesia, have signed a five-year contract for the repair of the airline’s CFM CF34-8C5 engines that will include 30-40 shop visits and provision of lease engines.  

Routes

Air China will reduce frequency on the Beijing-Havana (via Montreal) B777-300ER route from thrice-weekly to weekly from July 15 through to October 29, but it will maintain three weekly flights to Montreal during the period. Furthermore, the flag carrier will increase frequency on the Chengdu-Paris A330-200 route from thrice- to four-weekly from July 7. Juneyao Airlines will add a thrice-weekly Shanghai-Irkutsk A320 operation commencing June 20. Lufthansa will halve frequency on the Frankfurt-Shanghai route from double daily to daily in August. Malindo Air plans a thrice-weekly Kuala Lumpur-Wuhan B737-800 service from June 29. Singapore Airlines will reduce frequency on the Changi-Istanbul B777-200ER route from daily to six-weekly from September 14 through to October 29. China’s Spring Airlines will launch a four-weekly Dalian-Changzhou-Bangkok A320 operation commencing July 1 and a four-weekly Ningbo-Bangkok A320 flight from July 1, respectively. Tigerair Taiwan will add a thrice-weekly Taipei-Okayama A320 flight starting July 14. T’Way Airlines will launch a four-weekly Incheon-Da Nang B737-800 service from July 1. United Airlines has launched daily San Francisco-Singapore B787-9 operations. Vietnam Airlines will launch a four-weekly Da Nang-Bangkok A321 flight starting June 26.
