Air Mauritius swings to full-year profit but predicts tough year ahead
June 17th 2016
Air Mauritius has had a good year. This week, the Indian Ocean carrier posted a €16.6 million ($18.6 million) pre-tax profit for the financial year ended March 31, reversing a €23.6 million year-ago loss. Read More » The airline said its passengers increased 10% for the year and its revenues grew from 465 million to 490 million Euros.
The carrier forecast the year ahead could be turbulent as competition will increase with the arrival of Emirates Airline flying double daily A380s from Dubai to Port Louis and AirAsia X’s plan for a three times a week Kuala Lumpur-Mauritius service from October 4.
"This is resulting in an oversupply of seat/cargo capacity in an already price sensitive market entailing further yield dilution," Air Mauritius said.
Air Mauritius in March launched its first nonstop A330-200 flight to Singapore, replacing Kuala Lumpur as its Asian transfer hub, as the island nation looks to the Asia-Pacific for new business, marketing itself as an international financial centre. It will launch a new service to Guangzhou from July, in addition to existing services to Beijing, Chengdu and Shanghai.
