ARJ21 performs maiden commercial flight

Mainland China’s first home-grown passenger jet in forty years, the ARJ21-700, made its commercial debut on Tuesday on a Chengdu Airlines-operated return flight between Chengdu and Shanghai’s Hongqiao, seven months after delivery. Read More »

Chengdu Airlines has 30 ARJs on order from manufacturer COMAC. The second airframe is expected to be delivered to Chengdu in August.

The inaugural flight was piloted by Chengdu Airlines deputy general manager, Zhang Fang, as well as deputy chief pilot, Liu Bo, and deputy chief security officer, Li Janguo.

The domestic carrier will initially deploy the new type on flights from Chengdu to to Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Xi'an, Nanjing and Guiyang.
