Mainland first half passenger numbers up 11%

The Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) on Monday released its first-half traffic data. Read More » More specifically, domestic boardings increased 9.1% during the period and international boardings improved 27%, which resulted in an average load factor of 82.2%.
Despite the passenger growth, China’s carriers are significantly improving their on-time performance. In July, an average 68.9% of all flights left on time, up 12.9% year-on-year. Among the major carriers, Tianjin Airlines was the most punctual with an on-time performance of 76.5% (+11.5%), followed by Shandong Airlines (+4.9%), China Southern Airlines (+10.5%), Sichuan Airlines (+10.5%) and Hainan Airlines (+13.6%).
The average on-time departure rate at China’s airports was 73.7% in July, up 8.7% year-on-year. Kunming’s Changshui International Airport took the pole position with 87.1% of flights departing on schedule (+2.3%), followed by Xian (+8.3%), Chongqing (+12.4%), Haikou (+24%) and Harbin (+8.2%).
Beijing’s Capital Airport ranked 23rd with an on-time rate of 65.5% and Shanghai’s Pudong and Chengdu’s Shuangliu were 25th and 7th with 61.6% and 80.5%, respectively.
