China Southern orders 12 B787-9s

Guangzhou-based China Southern Airlines on Wednesday confirmed an order for 12 B787-9 Dreamliners, with deliveries from 2018 to 2020 at list prices of $3.25 billion. Read More » It plans to receive five aircraft in 2018, four in 2019 and the remaining three the following year.

The SkyTeam member already operates ten of the smaller -8s. It was the first Chinese carrier to fly the Dreamliner in 2013 and currently operates the model on services to London, Rome, Vancouver, Perth and Christchurch, as well as domestically on the Guangzhou-Beijing and –Shanghai trunk routes.

"The 787 Dreamliners have helped us to achieve initial success in implementing our internationalization strategy in the past few years and enabled us to make our operation and services more appealing to passengers," said Tan Wangeng, CEO of China Southern Airlines. "The new 787-9s will increase our capacity and services for our long-haul routes."

It’s been a very good past week for Boeing. After signing the Qatar Airways order, it received a conversion order from Atlas Air Worldwide Holdings for nine B767 passenger aircraft to be re-configured into Boeing Converted Freighters (BCFs). Four of the orders were announced at the Farnborough International Airshow in July, but the customer was not identified.
