Fernandes to restructure his airline group, Thai AirAsia is the region’s latest neo operator

AirAsia Group co-founder and CEO, Tony Fernandes, told a press conference this week he is looking to form a new holding company to house all of the group's ASEAN-based units of Malaysia AirAsia, Indonesia AirAsia, Philippines AirAsia and Thai AirAsia under one roof. Read More »

Fernandes said the consolidation would take place following the listings of AirAsia's Indonesian and Filipino affiliates, likely to be early next year. Unlike its majority shareholder, Asia Aviation PCL, Thai AirAsia is not a listed company.

Don Mueang-based Thai AirAsia took delivery of its first A320neo on Monday, becoming the latest operator of the aircraft type in the region after IndiGo Airlines, GoAir and (Malaysia) AirAsia. The airline expects to receive another three neos, joining its existing 49 ceos, by year end.
