Boeing’s biggest win came from Doha when Qatar Airways signed for 30 B787-9s and 10 additional B777-300ERs; estimated at a combined value of $11.3 billion. The American plane maker also secured two new B787-9 commitments, one for twelve and another for five aircraft, currently listed as being placed by an “unidentified customer”. Orient Aviation understands these are new orders from Chinese carriers, underscoring the Mainland’s affinity with the Dreamliner.
SWISS International Air Lines ordered an extra B777-300ER, saying the type will form the backbone of its future long-haul fleet, while cargo forwarder UPS gave a lifeline to the struggling B747-8 program after opting for 14 -8 freighters (plus 14 options). An unidentified customer placed an order for six B737 MAXs, another unidentified customer for two B737 MAXs, and a third unidentified customer ordered five B737-900ERs.
Boeing received 85 orders in October, but had eight B737 cancellations. Year-to-date, Boeing’s net commercial aircraft order is 457 aircraft.
At Airbus, the Toulouse-based OEM secured 19 orders for the month from undisclosed customers. They were 10 A320neos, two A320ceos, three A321ceos and four A319ceos.
Taking the month’s bookings and cancellations into account, Airbus net orders for 2016 are 395 aircraft to October 31.
