Caticlan Airport, gateway to the resort island of Boracay, last week received its first jet aircraft, a PAL Express A320 after the airfield’s single runway was extended to 1,800m to accommodate aircraft larger than turboprops. Read More » Cebgo president and CEO, Xander Lao, last month told Orient Aviation another extension is planned.

Cebgo flies up to eight times a day between Manila and Caticlan with its ATR72 fleet. Last month, it received its first ATR72-600 in a high-density configuration, increasing the turboprop’s seat count from 72 to 78 seats.

The carrier launched its own Manila-Caticlan A320 operations on Wednesday, initially once day. Cebgo’s Lao told Orient Aviation Cebu Pacific Air plans to add international services from Caticlan “as soon as an international terminal has been built”.

Caticlan’s Godofredo P. Ramos Airport is operated by TransAire Development Holdings Corp. under a twenty-five-year contract with the Filipino national government.

Revived AirAsia Philippines said it planned to switch operations from Kalibo to Caticlan next month, given its A320 fleet can now land on the extended runway.

By next year, Philippine Airlines (PAL), Cebu Pacific Air (CEB) and AirAsia Philippines are expected to launch international services from the island, with a particular focus on flights to Hong Kong, Seoul, Busan, Singapore and Shanghai.
