November 25th 2016
At the end of last week, Japan’s Peach Aviation signed a direct firm order with Airbus for 10 A320neo and three A320ceo. Read More » The order was announced at a signing ceremony in Tokyo, attended by Peach CEO, Shinichi Inoue, and Airbus president and CEO, Fabrice Brégier. The aircraft will join Peach’s existing A320 fleet of 18 ceos, with another two on order.
The Osaka-headquartered carrier will become the first low-cost carrier (LCC) in Japan to operate the neo. The first A320neo for full-service All Nippon Airways (ANA) left the paint shop on November 1. Peach is 39% owned by ANA.
“Our A320 fleet is growing as our route network expands, not only in the domestic market but also to various Asian cities,” said Inoue. “By introducing the A320neo to our fleet we will enhance even further our profitability while continuing to offer our passengers greater comfort with 18-inch wide seats. We believe that the A320neo will strengthen our position in the competitive Japanese aviation market.”
Brégier said Airbus aimed to boost its market share in Japan from 17% to 30% in the 2020s, before catching up with Boeing in the 2030s."The customers will decide. We have the right products. If we continue to invest in the right technologies, it will come,” Brégier said.
ANA has 37 A320neo Family jets on order from Toulouse, including 26 A321neos, four A321ceos and seven A320neos. It also committed to three A380s earlier this year, which Brégier described as “a test case to demonstrate that they will transport more passengers to Honolulu”. Rival Japan Airlines has ordered 31 A350s (18 -900s and 13 -1000s), its first Airbus purchase.
