AWAS up for sale?

Dublin-based Ansett Worldwide Aviation Services (AWAS) has been put up for sale, Reuters reported this week, citing sources close to the deal. The sale could fetch up to $7 billion. Read More »

The interested parties reportedly are almost exclusively from the Asia-Pacific, including Hong Kong’s Cheung Kong Holdings’ leasing arm and China's Ping An Insurance Group.

AWAS ranks in the top 10 of the world’s aircraft lessors. It has 90 airline customers, including Singapore Airlines, Hong Kong Airlines and Qantas Airways.

In October, Avolon Holdings, itself acquired earlier this year by China’s HNA Group, purchased CIT Group’s leasing arm for approximately $10 billion. Asia Aviation Capital, the leasing unit of AirAsia Group, is looking for prospective buyers. The firm is valued at approximately $1 billion.
