United launches B777-300ER on Hong Kong route

United Airlines this week announced it would commence scheduled B777-300ER operations into Hong Kong by March 31 next year. Read More » The Star Alliance member will roster the -300ER six times a week, for crew familiarization, on the San Francisco-Newark route from February 16 and then launch the aircraft internationally on the daily San Francisco-Hong Kong service from March 25. It will replace the existing B747-400 on the route.

United has ordered 14 B777-300ERs. United Airlines managing director for Greater China and Korea, Walter Dias, confirmed to Orient Aviation that the airline expected to take delivery of all 14 aircraft by July. “It can be expected that the aircraft will take over a number of routes to Asia,” Dias said late last month. The -300ERs, with GE90-115B engines are configured with three-class layout, featuring 60 Polaris business seats, 102 economy comfort (five inches more legroom and no added services) and 204 economy seats. United is phasing out its GlobalFirst product due to sluggish demand.
