Korean Air Lines will retain a first class cabin on its incoming fleet of B787-9 Dreamliners. According to its website, Korean Air will configure the -9 in a three-class configuration, comprising six first, 18 business and 245 economy seats. Read More »

Korean’s layout decision is curious in several ways. Among all B787-9s operators, Korean’s Dreamliners will feature the smallest premium section at a combined 24 seats in first and business. Typically, Korean aircraft feature large premium cabins. Even more curious is that Korean’s B787 first and business class seats will be identical; the carrier has selected B/E Aerospace’s Apex seat for both cabins.

First class will be one row configured 2-2-2, followed by three rows of business class also configured 2-2-2 and a large 3-3-3-configured economy cabin. Even the seat pitch and width in first and business are identical at 86”/75” and 20.8”, respectively.

Korean has ten B787-9s on order. It plans to fly the first couple of frames to Toronto from June, followed by Madrid, Beijing and Zurich from August.

The flag carrier also has 10 Bombardier CS300s on firm order for domestic routes. It expects to receive seven of them this year.

In other Korean fleeting updates, Korean Air rival, Asiana Airlines, received its final of six on-order A380s in late December. It now deploys the superjumbo to Los Angeles, New York and starting March also to Frankfurt. Asiana also expects the first of 25 on-order A321neos and the first of 30 A350s this year.
