Los Angeles-based lessor Air Lease Corporation (ALC) this week confirmed a contract with China Southern Airlines for five “long-term” B787-9 leases from 2019. Read More »

The Guangzhou-headquartered carrier will receive the first -9 Dreamliner from ALC in the first quarter of 2017, followed by two more frames that year and another two in 2020.

All five aircraft will be powered by GE Aviation’s GEnx engines.

China Southern will take three additional -9s from AerCap. The airline plans to have 20 of the type at year-end 2020: twelve on direct order from Boeing (announced last October, but curiously not yet listed in Boeing’s order book), five from ALC and three from AerCap.

The carrier currently operates ten GEnx-powered B787-8s.
