Boeing plans to deliver the first B737 from the facility, located 280kms southwest of Shanghai, in 2018. It plans an output of 100 aircraft a year in the joint-venture with COMAC, but will be the sole owners of the delivery centre.

To accommodate the Boeing plant, Zhoushan’s Putuoshan Airport is undergoing a 750 million yuan (US$109 million) expansion.

Airbus inaugurated an A320 final assembly line in Tianjin in 2009 and it is building an A330 completion and delivery centre next door, with its first delivery to China Southern Airlines on track for September.
