TransAsia sells A330s, A321s
April 28th 2017
Taiwan’s defunct TransAsia Airways has sold the two A330-300s and the two A321ceo it owned to an undisclosed buyer for US$364 million, Taiwan’s CNA has reported, citing a statement from the airline. Read More »
The two sold A330s were delivered to the airline in November 2012 and January 2013, respectively. TransAsia used to operate four A330s. The other two wide bodies were on lease to the airline from Lease Corporation International, a Dublin-based lessor under the umbrella of George Logothetis’ Libra Group. One of the two leased jets is still in storage; the other is being prepared to enter service with Hong Kong Airlines.
The two A321ceo sold were delivered off-factory to TransAsia in April and October 2014, respectively. It used to operate six A321ceo; the other four were on lease.
The carrier also owns seven ATR72-600s and says it has found buyers for the turboprops.
TransAsia’s board of directors in January decided to dissolve the airline because of heavy debts following several accidents and poor future prospects. Taiwan’s oldest airline suffered more than NT$2.2 billion (US$69 million) in losses in the first three quarters of 2016 and was unsuccessful in its efforts to find a buyer.
