Etihad names new airline partners CEO
April 28th 2017
Abu Dhabi’s Etihad Aviation Group on Monday announced the appointment of Robin Kamark as CEO of its Airline Equity Partners alliance, effective October. Read More »
Kamark will be responsible for leading and developing the group's minority equity investment strategy, which includes stakes in airberlin, Alitalia, Jet Airways, Air Serbia, Air Seychelles, Etihad Regional and Virgin Australia. Both Alitalia and airberlin are facing severe problems, with the former close to declaring bankruptcy despite several cash injections over the past few years.
Kamark, a former SAS Group CCO, will report to group president and CEO, James Hogan. Kamark will replace Bruno Matheu, who is leaving for ‘personal reasons’.
H.E. Mohamed Mubarak Fadhel Al Mazrouei, Chairman of the Board of the Etihad Aviation Group, said: “Robin is a well-respected leader in global aviation, with wide-ranging experience at SAS Group. He performed important roles in the restructuring of that airline and has broadened his experience more recently in financial services.”
“Our equity partner strategy continues to be an important element of our business model, and Robin will drive the strategy by adjusting and progressing our approach,” Al Mazrouei added.
The Etihad Aviation Group board is currently searching for a new group CEO after James Hogan announced he would step down later this year. Industry sources are suggesting Christoph Mueller, the turnaround king and former CEO of Aer Lingus and Malaysia Airlines, could be leaving his position of chief digital and innovation officer with Emirates Airline to take the top job at Etihad when Hogan departs.
