Sichuan Airlines adds Auckland, Air China announces Astana and Zurich

Sichuan Airlines has confirmed the launch of thrice-weekly A330 flights from its Chengdu base to Auckland starting from June, becoming the latest Mainland carrier to add service to New Zealand. Read More » The independent carrier last week took delivery of its tenth A330, a -200 variant, raising its fleet to 123 all-Airbus aircraft.
Air China this week officially announced the additions of Beijing-Astana and Beijing-Zurich to its route network. Astana will launch as a thrice-weekly A320 operation on June 1, followed by four-weekly A330 flights to Zurich from June 7.It already operates a thrice-weekly A330 flight from Beijing to Geneva.
"In recent years, Air China has been expanding its route network to meet passengers' needs. Operating from our three hubs in Beijing, Chengdu and Shanghai, we plan to improve connections to a number of destinations in Europe, America, Asia, Africa and Australasia. China's Belt and Road Initiative has created new opportunities for us to expand our international route network," said Ma Chongxian, a vice-president at the flag carrier.
Separately, Italian carrier, Neos, this week said it would launch a weekly service between its Milan Malpensa base and Jinan in Shandong province. The flight will be operated by a two-class B767-300ER. Neos is a joint venture between Italian tour operator Alpitour and the German TUI Group.
