Philippines flag carrier, Philippine Airlines (PAL), said this week that it would “temporarily suspend” it’s three times a week Cebu-Los Angeles route from May 30. Read More » PAL said the route’s suspension was “being carried out as PAL rationalizes capacity on the route”. Holders of confirmed tickets may reroute their flights to the U.S. via the carrier’s Manila hub or obtain a full refund.

PAL had an A340-300 on the route, configured with 36 business class recliners and 218 economy class seats. Analysts believed the airline cannibalized Cebu-Los Angeles when it added a second daily Manila-Los Angeles B777-300ER service in December last year which gave “passengers the flexibility to choose between morning and evening departures/arrivals”.

PAL operates 25 flights a week between Manila and the U.S., including twice daily to Los Angeles, daily to San Francisco and four-times a week to New York. It also flies daily to Guam and five times a week to Honolulu.

The Jaime Bautista-led airline is boosting its operations at Clark International Airport by adding three new routes out of the former military air field. From June 22, PAL will fly three times a week from Clark to Bacolod and daily to Tagbilaran. A day later, Clark will be linked to Cagayan de Oro four times a week.

PAL flies to five domestic destinations from Clark: Busuanga, Caticlan, Cebu, Davao and Puerto Princes and four times a week to Seoul’s Incheon International Airport.

In other PAL updates, the airline signed a 12-year ‘Integrated Component Services’ agreement with MRO specialist SR Technics, last month, to service the carrier’s 45 A321s and 15 A330-300s, with the work to be carried out at SR Technics’ Kuala Lumpur MRO base.

SR Technics CEO, Jeremy Remacha, said he was pleased to continue the successful partnership as the MRO provider remains committed to further developing its services in the Asia-Pacific.
