“NokScoot and Thai AirAsia X are the fourth and fifth carriers to be re-granted AOCs,” said CAAT director-general, Chula Sukmanop. “This marks a special milestone as both airlines only operate flights to overseas destinations, differing from the previous three airlines recertified to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) safety standards.”

Flag carrier Thai Airways International (THAI), Bangkok Airways and Thai AirAsia have already been recertified.

THAI told Orient Aviation it hopes Thailand’s ICAO safety rating will be restored to Category 1 “before the end of 2017”.

The CAAT had previously said its goal was to recertify nine of Thailand’s airline by June before it would reapply for the ICAO safety evaluation.

Still remaining in the initial group of airlines to be re-evaluated are THAI subsidiaries Nok Air and THAI Smile, as well as Orient Thai Airlines and K-Mile Air.
