The Kathmandu Post said the two jets were purchased for US$104.8 million each and were due to arrive at Kathmandu’s Tribhuvan International Airport in May and June next year, respectively.
Hi Fly is an ACMI/charter specialist that is part of a consortium of three firms. Its two other members are U.S.-based AAR Aircraft Sales & Leasing and the German Aviation Capital Corporation (GACC). AAR won a tender for the supply of two A330-200s to NAC in April. NAC has deposited US$79 million as prepayment for the aircraft.
The airline plans to fly the A330s to Japan, South Korea and Europe and will replace its two B757-200s. NAC also has two A320s, primarily operated to India, the Gulf, Kuala Lumpur and Hong Kong.
NAC has borrowed 24 billion Nepali rupees (US$233 million) from the Nepali Citizen Investment Trust and the Employees Provident Fund to fund the aircraft acquisition.
