Bamboo Airways tipped as B777X and B737MAX customer

Vietnamese start-up carrier, Hanoi-based Bamboo Airways, has held negotiations with Airbus and Boeing for an order for 15 aircraft, Vietnam Net Bridges has reported, but specified the airline’s talks with the U.S. manufacturer concerned 10 B737 MAX 9s and five B777Xs for delivery from 2018. Bamboo Airways plans to launch services in 2018, but its business plan still needs Vietnam’s Ministry of Transport’s approval. The airline will become part of the FLC Group, a Vietnamese conglomerate specialising in real estate and tourism.

“Vietnam will be the tenth largest passenger market by 2035 and will have annual aviation growth of 14.8% to 2020, the highest of any nation in the world,” Airports Council International (ACI) data reveals.

Vietnam’s skies are filling up quickly. Vietnam Airlines, VietJet Air and Jetstar Pacific have placed significant orders for fleet expansion with the major manufacturers.
