Malindo to dominate China-Sabah market

The Malaysian subsidiary of Indonesia’s Lion Air Group, Malindo Air, will launch three scheduled year-round routes between China and Kota Kinabalu, the gateway to Malaysia’s Sabah province in Borneo. Read More »

Next week, Malindo will fly three times a week between Kota Kinabalu and Chengdu followed by a four-weekly route to Beijing starting the next day. From September 1, it will operate three a week scheduled service to Changsha.

Malindo also has been allocated 93 chartered flights to Sabah in July and August from eight Mainland cities: Zhengzhou (17), Wuxi (13), Ningbo (13), Chongqing (8), Wenzhou (13), Changsha (10), Xuzhou (10) and Xian (9). Sabah is expecting up to half a million Chinese visitors this year.

Malindo is the launch operator of the B737 MAX 8. Parent Lion Air took delivery of its first MAX 8 on Monday. Both Lion and Malindo each expect to have four MAXs in service by year-end. The group has ordered more than 200 MAXs.
