Jetstar is making further inroads into the Australia-China leisure market. In December, the Qantas Airways subsidiary will launch a twice-weekly Melbourne-Zhengzhou B787-8 service in partnership with China Comfort Travel, a large Mainland travel agency group. Read More »

Jetstar Group CEO, Jayne Hrdlicka, said she hoped the flights would further stimulate inbound tourism from China to Australia. “We know that Chinese travellers generally visit two or three cities when they visit Australia so we expect this will boost tourism to other parts of Australia,” Hrdlicka said.

The flights are currently not listed on the Jetstar website, so it is likely tickets will only be sold through the agency channel.

Jetstar’s B787-8s seat 335 passengers, 314 in the standard nine-abreast economy cabin and 21 in Jetstar’s premium cabin configured with 38in-pitch recliner seats. The carrier now has 11 B787s in its fleet.

The Zhengzhou service will be the airline’s second route to Mainland China. In September 2015, Jetstar launched a twice-weekly Gold Coast-Wuhan B787 route, that time in cooperation with the Dalian Wanda Group. The flights to Wuhan were terminated within a year.

Jetstar will hold a monopoly on the Melbourne-Zhengzhou route.
