Following the launch of JC International Airlines in Cambodia in March, a new entrant, Lanmei Airlines, plans to start flying as soon as September 15, depending on approval of its air operator’s certificate (AOC) by Cambodia’s State Secretariat of Civil Aviation (SSCA).
Initially, the fledgling Cambodian carrier is planning A319 services from its Phnom Penh base to Hanoi (four-weekly) and Ho Chi Minh City (four-weekly via Siem Reap) as well as Macau, also four-weekly via Siem Reap.
Lanmei will be competing with Cambodia Angkor Air as well as JC International. The former is looking to more than double its fleet by adding four ATRs and eight Airbus jets by 2020 to compete with JC.
“Our new routes would include Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, Japan, Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, South Korea, Macau and India,” Cambodia Angkor chairman, Tek Reth Samrach said. “We hope to get more Chinese passengers as the government plans to attract two million Chinese tourists to Cambodia by 2020.”
As part of its expansion plan, Cambodia Angkor Air has signed codeshare deals with local competitor Bassaka Air, as well as Lao Airlines, All Nippon Airways and T’Way Airlines.
