Thai Airways International to receive first B787-9

Thai Airways International (THAI) will receive its first B787-9 tomorrow. Read More » The flag carrier has ordered two of the type, complementing the six -8s in its fleet. THAI’s B787-9 is configured with 298 seats in a two-class cabin of 30 Royal Silk business seats and 268 economy seats.

THAI told Orient Aviation on Friday the -9 Dreamliner would start commercial flights between Bangkok and Chiang Mai and Phuket from 23-30 September before being deployed on the Bangkok-Singapore route from October 1 to November 15.

After the delivery of the second B787-9 in early November, THAI will also fly the new planes to Auckland and Taipei.

THAI has been grounding some B787-8s because of fan blade corrosion issues with their Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 engines. The airline is seeking compensation from Rolls-Royce for the enforced adjustment of its scheduled operations.
