Hawaiian starts “comprehensive” partnership with JAL after parting with ANA
September 29th 2017
Hawaiian Airlines and Japan Airlines (JAL) this week announced the formation of a “comprehensive new partnership” on flights between Hawaii and Japan from March 25, a precursor of a possible full blown joint venture. Read More »
From March, the two carriers will start extensive code sharing, reciprocal frequent flyer benefits and lounge access between the island state and Japan. JAL passengers will have unlimited access to Hawaiian’s network including flights between Sapporo and Honolulu, and Hawaiian will have full access to JAL’s domestic network, which includes Nagoya, Fukuoka, Sendai and Aomori.
Hawaiian’s Japan-Hawaii flights will be offered as options within Japan Airlines’ wholly owned subsidiary, JALPAK, a reputable package tour operator in Japan.
JAL Mileage Bank and HawaiianMiles members will be able to earn miles on the codeshare flights. Opportunities for accrual and redemption of mileage will be expanded at a later date.
Guests will have access to both airlines’ lounges. When Hawaiian has completed its planned relocation to Terminal 2 at Tokyo Narita Airport, passengers of each airline can seamlessly transfer between each carrier’s networks.
Hawaiian used to have a partnership with All Nippon Airways (ANA), although this was much smaller in scale than the upcoming JAL tie-up.
The new deal with JAL will give Hawaiian significantly more opportunities to grow its footprint. Between them, JAL and Hawaiian will have nonstop flights between Honolulu and Narita, Haneda, Nagoya, Osaka and Sapporo as well as Narita-Kona on JAL and Haneda-Kona on Hawaiian.
ANA’s access to Hawaii is restricted to twice-daily Narita-Honolulu and daily Haneda-Honolulu fights.
