VietJet and Qatar Airways sign interline deal

Vietnamese budget carrier, VietJet Air, this week forged another unexpected partnership. Read More » The Hanoi-headquartered LCC signed an interline agreement with ‘premium’ carrier, Qatar Airways, for flights from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City to eight Vietnamese domestic destinations: Ban Me Thuot, Dalat, Da Nang, Haiphong, Nha Trang/Cam Ranh, Phu Quoc, Pleiku and Vinh City.

The deal included VietJet’s double daily flights from Ho Chi Minh to Taipei and up to twice-daily services from Hanoi to Taipei.

Qatar Airways flies daily from Doha to Hanoi and it will upgrade the route to double daily from January 1. It serves Ho Chi Minh daily and will up-gauge the route to ten-weekly, also from January 1. Qatar Airways does not serve Taipei. Yet.

In late July, Japan Airlines (JAL) surprised the industry when it signed a joint venture agreement with VietJet on routes between Japan and Vietnam. From April, JAL will start a partnership with Aeromexico on flights between Japan and Mexico as well as limited domestic services.

VietJet is looking for additional airline partners and it is considering long-haul low-cost operations in the medium-term.
