AirAsia Japan is giving it another go, following the 2013 collapse of its joint venture with ANA Holdings. Read More »

AirAsia Japan 2.0 is scheduled to launch on October 29 with double daily flights between its hub at Nagoya’s Chubu and Sapporo’s Chitose, flying a pair of A320s.

“We are honoured to be the first airline to be based in Nagoya’s Chubu Centrair International Airport. We are committed to connecting as many guests as possible at low fares to AirAsia's extensive network as well as bridging communities and cultures for the benefit of the local economy,” AirAsia Japan CEO, Osamu Hata, said.

The budget carrier won’t hold the monopoly at Nagoya for long, however. Rival LCC, Jetstar Japan, has announced plans to set up a base in Chubu in 2018.

The new AirAsia Japan is 49%-owned by Malaysia’s AirAsia Group. The majority 51% of the airline is held by Octave Japan Infrastructure Fund (19%); travel firm Rakuten (18%); Noevir Holdings (9%) and Alpen (5%).
