China Southern orders 38 Boeing jets

Asia’s largest carrier, Guangzhou-based China Southern Airlines, has ordered eight additional B777-300ERs and 30 B737 MAX 8s, the airline said in a Hong Kong Stock Exchange filing. Read More »

The first five wide bodies and twelve MAXs are scheduled to arrive at the carrier in 2019, with the remaining aircraft to follow a year later. The -300ERs will be powered by GE’s GE90s; the MAXs by the CFM International LEAP-1B.

The 30 additional MAXs will top up a 2015 order for 50 of the same type. The eight extra B777s will join the carrier’s ten in-service -300ERs. China Southern also has outstanding orders for 20 A350-900s and 20 B787-9s, amongst others.

The carrier is reportedly evaluating an order for the Airbus/Bombardier C Series.
