Air China is scheduled to perform its maiden B737 MAX revenue flight tomorrow, November 11, on the Beijing-Urumqi route. Read More » The carrier’s first B737 MAX 8 arrived at the airline’s Beijing Capital Airport hub on Tuesday, following a ferry flight from Boeing’s Everett facility. The MAX series is exclusively powered by CFM International LEAP-1B engines.

It is unclear how many B737 MAXs Air China has on firm order. Boeing’s order book lists eight MAXs, but there most certainly are more. The manufacturer said it was up to the customer to disclose their orders, but the OEM did note that Mainland carriers would take delivery of almost 100 MAXs by the end of 2018.

“Air China has been a longstanding and valued customer for decades,” Vice president of Sales, Northeast Asia, Boeing Commercial Airplanes, Rick Anderson, said at last week’s delivery ceremony. “This delivery marks another significant milestone in our enduring partnership. We are confident the 737 MAX 8 will play a key role in Air China's continued growth.”

Air China now operates 184 Boeing passenger aircraft: 26 B777-300ERs, seven B747-8s, eleven B787-9s and 40 B737-800s.
