Kenya Airways axes Hanoi and Hong Kong routes

Kenya Airways has suspended flights from Nairobi to Hanoi and Hong Kong on a day’s notice and said it would redeploy the freed up capacity on its African network “where the demand outlook remained strong” and capacity was “insufficient on certain routes”. Kenya Airways operates a daily Nairobi-Bangkok B787-8 flight, which will now continue to Guangzhou every day instead of alternating between Guangzhou, Hong Kong and Hanoi. Bangkok and Guangzhou are now the airline’s only destinations in Asia. The only competition to Nairobi is China Southern Airlines’ twice-weekly Guangzhou-Nairobi rotation.

“We will continue to serve our customers to Asia with direct flights to China and Thailand and work closely with our partners to cover [the rest of] the Asian continent,” said Kenya Airways commercial director, Vincent Coste. Kenya Airways has been struggling financially for years and is now rumoured to be close to collapse.
