GE9X installed on B747 testbed

GE Aviation has completed installing the GE9X on its B747-400 flying testbed. Read More » The engine manufacturer promised the GE9X will be 10% more fuel efficient than the current generation B777 GE90. It is scheduled for flight testing by year end.
With a fan diameter 55% wider than the testbed’s three other CF6-80C2 engines, the GE9X forced GE and Boeing to make several modifications, including a strengthened wing and pylon. The GE9X is a 105,000lb-thrust turbofan, designed to exclusively power the B777X programme. It has a unit cost of US$41 million and is scheduled to enter commercial service with Emirates Airline in 2020.
