The Singapore Airlines Group (SIA Group) remains ahead of the competition with the announcement this week that Singapore Airlines (SIA) and its regional subsidiary, SilkAir, will begin code sharing on flights operated by Scoot, the group’s dedicated low-cost carrier. Read More »

The arrangement will offer SIA and SilkAir customers access to more than 30 destinations that formerly were served exclusively by Scoot, including Athens, Amritsar, Harbin, Honolulu, Sapporo and Tianjin. Passengers can travel on single-ticket itineraries to all Scoot destinations with boarding passes and baggage tags issued to their final destinations at the first point of check-in.

Additionally, SIA and SilkAir customers will be offered Scoot’s FlyBagEat privileges of a checked baggage allowance, a complimentary meal and beverage and a blanket for flights longer than four hours.

Codeshares between legacy carriers and low-cost airlines are rare. China Airlines and Asiana Airlines do not codeshare or interline with their respective Tigerair Taiwan and Air Seoul budget subsidiaries, to name a few.

In other SIA Group updates, Scoot has announced a four times a week Singapore-Berlin B787 route that will commence in the “the second half of 2018”. Berlin does not have a nonstop service from Asia. The new route will be Scoot’s second destination in Europe after Athens and SIA’s fourth destination in Germany, after Düsseldorf, Frankfurt and Munich.

“Scoot’s merger with Tigerair Singapore earlier this year has greatly strengthened our position, standing us in good stead to launch and sustain our long-haul operations. Athens has lived up to our expectations while bookings for Honolulu have been very promising. We are excited to bring our unique Scootitude to Berlin and can’t wait to launch those great value fares that Scoot is known for!,” said Scoot CEO, Lee Lik Hsin.
