The twin aisle jetliner was handed over to Lucky Air in Toulouse on December 27. It was then ferried to Zhengzhou, where it landed the following day.
The Kunming-headquartered HNA subsidiary will receive a third A330-300 in late January. All three jets will be owned by its larger sister carrier, full-service Hainan Airlines.
The LCC is deploying its first two A330s on routes from Chengdu to St. Petersburg and Kunming to Moscow. It also uses the widebodies on domestic flights.
Unlike the rest of its fleet, the Lucky Air A330s are fitted with a business class cabin. The first A330, delivered to the airline last March, features 32 business and 260 economy class seats. Last week’s second delivery is configured with 24 business and 279 economy class seats.
Lucky Air has said its initial long-haul operations would focus on flights from China to Australia and Europe.
The carrier was a founding member of the U-FLY LCC alliance. Its fleet also includes 11 A320ceo Family jets and 31 B737NGs. It is expected that Lucky Air will receive up to five B737 MAX 8s from Hainan’s order book in 2018.
Through to 2023, Lucky Air plans to grow its long-haul fleet to 20 aircraft, with the A350 and the B787 both in the race.
