The HNA Group subsidiary also noted that December was its hitherto busiest month of operation, having carried a record 345,000 passengers aboard its 13 A320s and eight A321s.
“Flying forward into 2018, HK Express will face fierce competition in Hong Kong's air transport industry, but we can expect more opportunities for the aviation industry due to the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge and the Hong Kong section of the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong Express Rail link,” said HK Express president, Li Dianchun.
Through to April 30, HK Express is banned from launching new services and expanding its fleet. This follows a November order from the Hong Kong Civil Aviation Department that blamed the airline for the last minute cancellation of dozens of flights due to a shortage of safety inspectors.
