Japanese airports top on time performance in 2017

In 2017, Osaka’s Itami Airport was once again the Asia-Pacific’s airport with the best on-time performance (OTP). Read More » At Itami, 94.27% of all flights departed on schedule, according to VariFlight’s latest On-Time Performance Report. This compares with a global average OTP departure rate of 76.35%.

Itami was followed by Sapporo (93.84%), Tokyo’s Haneda Airport (87.96%) and Fukuoka Airport (87.43%). The remaining carriers in the top ten were: Auckland Airport, Kansai Airport, Melbourne Airport, Bangkok’s Don Mueang Airport and Hanoi’s Noi Bai Airport, in that order.

Among the ‘legacy airports’, Singapore’s Changi Airport ranked twelfth with an OTP of 75.70% and Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport, at 71.78%, came in nineteenth. Hong Kong International Airport and Seoul’s Incheon International Airport did not make the top 20.

In Mainland China, Urumqi Diwopu International Airport had the best OTP at 75.37%, followed by Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport (74.38%) and Dalian Zhoushuizi International Airport (74.03%).

Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport ranked nineteenth at 63.29%; Shanghai Pudong Airport was 26th (53.35%) and Beijing Capital Airport 27th (52.84%).
