VietJet Air reports US$200 million 2017 net profit

VietJet Aviation Joint Stock Company, the holding company of VietJet Air, has reported a 2017 net profit of 4,527 billion Vietnamese dong (US$199.2 million). Read More »

The low-cost carrier’s net revenue through to December 31, 2017, was 42,258 billion dong, representing a year-on-year increase of 53.7% and exceeding VietJet’s internal targets by 0.6%.

The carrier added 17 aircraft in 2017, including Southeast Asia’s first A321neo. VietJet opened one domestic and 21 international routes last year and now operates 38 domestic and 44 international services.

VietJet has a fleet of 28 A320s, 26 A321s and an A321neo with eight A321ceo and 72 A321neo on order and 100 B737 MAXs. The Hanoi-headquartered company carried 17.1 million passengers in 2017.

At US$2.25 cents, the budget carrier claims to have achieved the lowest cost per available seat kilometre (CASK) in the world in 2017. VietJet Air is considering long-haul budget flights to Australia, Europe and the U.S.
