Air China has applied to the U.S. Department of Transportation (DoT) for traffic rights between Houston and Panama City. Read More » The Mainland carrier plans to fly the Panamanian capital twice a week as a tag-on to its four - five-flights a week between Beijing and Houston.

Air China, a Star Alliance member, operates a three-class B777-300ER on the route of eight first class suites, 42 business and 261 economy class seats.

From Panama City, Air China will have exceptional onward connectivity on Star fellow Copa Airlines’ Latin and South America network.

It makes sense for Air China to explore tag-on routes from Houston considering their aircraft currently spend 9hr20min on the ground in Houston before returning to Beijing. The airline is expected to be granted fifth freedom rights between Houston and Panama City.

Air China also operates fifth freedom flights between Montreal and Havana, as well as Madrid and Sao Paulo. China Southern Airlines serves Mexico City via Vancouver.
