Airport operator, Dubai Airports, says the runway closure will coincide with a “seasonal lull”, but frequency cuts are still necessary. Dubai World Central will serve as alternate airport during the period.

The refurbishment works will centre on strengthening the runway and taxiway surfaces, as well as replacing more than 5,500 runway lights.

Dubai International handled more than 88 million passengers last year; it is the hub of Emirates Airline.
