Air Astana and Cathay Pacific sign extensive codeshare deal

Read More » From March 15, Cathay will place its “CX” code on Air Astana’s nonstop flights between Hong Kong and Almaty, the country’s economic centre, as well as on connecting services between Almaty and Astana, the Kazakh capital.
Air Astana operates B757-200s twice a week between Hong Kong and Almaty, with a third weekly frequency to be added from March 25.
Cathay will also add its designator on Air Astana’s Bangkok-Almaty and Seoul-Almaty routes, providing passengers with additional options for travel between Hong Kong and Kazakhstan.
In reciprocity, Air Astana will place its “KC” code on selected Cathay services from Hong Kong to Sydney, Melbourne, Perth and Singapore.
Cathay director for commercial and cargo, Ronald Lam, said the carrier was “delighted to provide customers with links to one of the most fascinating countries in Central Asia”.
“With its vibrant economy, which is set to grow as a result of its integral role in the Belt and Road Initiative, and beautiful natural landscapes, Kazakhstan has many attractions for both business and leisure travellers alike,” Lam said.
Vice president marketing and sales at Air Astana, Richard Ledger, said: “We are thrilled to strengthen co-operation with this wide-reaching codeshare agreement, which will further benefit our respective passengers, as well as the overall economic relationship between Kazakhstan and dynamic Hong Kong.”
Air Astana has a monopoly on flights from Hong Kong to Kazakhstan. Air China (twice a week from Beijing), Hainan Airlines (twice a week from Beijing) and China Southern Airlines (daily from Urumqi) serve the Central Asian nation from the Mainland.
