Xiamen Air orders 30 B737 MAX 8s

Xiamen Airlines will add 20 B737 MAX 8s and ten B737 MAX 10s to its fleet from 2019-2022, parent China Southern Airlines said in a stock exchange filing this week. Read More » The order is worth US$3.24 billion at list prices.

An initial batch of five MAX 8s will join the carrier’s fleet in 2019, followed by seven of the type in 2020. In 2021, the SkyTeam member will receive eight MAX 8s and seven MAX 10s before taking the final three MAX 10s in 2022. China Southern said the purchase would be funded partly through internal resources and partly through loans and other debt vehicles.

Xiamen Air and its parent signed an agreement to acquire 110 B737s, including the 30 B737 MAXs, in 2015.The airline operates 149 B737NGs on domestic and regional routes.

In the same filing, the carrier said Xiamen Air plans to add six B787 wide bodies to its fleet this year, which will increase the number of Dreamliners in its fleet to 18: six -8s and 12 -9s.
