There is no dedicated cargo airline in Vietnam, although this is bound to change later this year. Following massive aircraft orders from Airbus and Boeing and the recent announcement of its first intercontinental route between Vietnam and Australia, VietJet Air plans to enter the air freight market with a dedicated cargo fleet.
Speaking to Cargo Facts last month, VietJet vice president for freight, Do Xuan Quang, said the carrier was in the process of sourcing two B737-400Fs from lessors and hoped to deploy them in the second half of this year from Ho Chi Minh City to Hanoi, Bangkok, Hong Kong and Tokyo. If the initial business works, the airline will consider additional cargo planes, potentially including A330Fs, the VietJet executive said.
