THAI posts US$85.3 million first quarter profit

Thai Airways International’s (THAI) restructuring and transformation drive appears to be working with the announcement that the carrier and its subsidiaries made a first quarter net profit of THB2.737 million (US$85.3 million). Read More » The operating profit was THB3.836 million, a 49.4% increase compared with the same period last year.

THAI said the better operating performance was from passenger and excess baggage revenue, freight and mail revenue, “revenue from other activities” and THB583 million in foreign currency exchange gains.

During the quarter, the airline group accepted delivery of four Airbus A350-900 aircraft for long haul and regional routes. At March 31, THAI had 104 aircraft in its fleet, nine more compared with the same period last year. ASKs increased 4.9% and RPKs 2.2%. Given its larger capacity, load factor decreased slightly to 80.6% from 82.8%.

THAI’s total assets are THB286.169 million, or 1.9% compared with December 31, 2017. Liabilities are THB251.413 million, which is an increase of 1.1% from December 31. Shareholder equity increased 8.6% to THB34.756 million, from three months earlier.”due to profit from operations”, THAI said.
