China Southern now sixth largest airline in the world

Guangzhou-headquartered China Southern Airlines is now the sixth largest carrier in the world, OAG data shows. Read More »

In May, the SkyTeam member carrier operated 11% more domestic and international capacity compared to the same month a year earlier.

The OAG report further highlighted that China Southern added more capacity at Urumqi Airport than at any other Mainland airport. In May, China Southern offered 480,000 seats from Urumqi, up 21%, or 83,000 seats, year-on-year.

China Southern is Asia’s largest carrier. The airline has a fleet of more than 550 aircraft, including recent A320neo, A321neo, B737 MAX 8 and B787-9 additions. China Southern posted a net profit of approximately US$1.43 billion in 2017.

The airline recently announced the resumption of Urumqi-St. Petersburg flights from June 2. The carrier will deploy a B737 MAX 8 on the route three times a week.
