The Russian flag carrier and SkyTeam member plans to take the aircraft on lease from Aviacapital-Service, which is part of Rostec State Corporation, a Russian state corporation established in late 2007 to consolidate strategically important firms with the ultimate goal of capitalizing them and floating them on the stock exchange.Aeroflot expects to take delivery of the 50 MC-21-300s from the first quarter of 2020 through to the third quarter of 2026. Irkut has received approximately 200 orders from Russian carriers and lessors for the MC-21-200 and MC-21-300 variants.
The MC-21 programme will be powered by either Pratt & Whitney PW1400G engines or Russian-built Aviadvigatel PD-14 power plants.
Aeroflot said “at least half” of its MC-21s would be equipped with the PW1400G engines.
The flag carrier now has approximately 240 aircraft in its fleet mostly Airbus and Boeing jets. It also operates approximately 40 Sukhoi SuperJet 100s. It had ordered 50 but keeps approximately ten permanently grounded.
Separately, Russia’s S7 Airlines, a oneworld member, this week took delivery of its maiden A321neo. The Novosibirsk-headquartered carrier will receive four A321neo on lease from ALC this year. S7 already operates seven A321ceo and 24 A320s, including six A320neo. The airline plans to operate the A321neo on longer domestic and international flights.
