China Development Bank Financial Leasing Co. (CDB Leasing) has had a strategy change. Read More » The aircraft lessor has cancelled its sole widebody order for eight B787-9s in favour of an order for 22 additional B737 MAX 8 aircraft, CDB Leasing disclosed in a stock exchange filing.

The 22 MAX jets will be delivered to CDB from February 2023 through to May 2025.

The conversion takes CDB’s B737 MAX backlog to 64 MAX 8s and 10 MAX 10s. The Mainland lessor also has outstanding orders with Airbus for 90 A320neo Family aircraft and with COMAC for 20 ARJ21s and 10 C919s.

CDB says the conversion marks a “material variation” to its strategy and thus the lessor requires shareholders to approve the transaction at an extraordinary general meeting.
