Brussels Airlines’ India flights did not last long. The airline launched Brussels-Mumbai last year only and this week said it would terminate the service “for economic reasons, as the route does not deliver the anticipated results”.
The carrier said it would redeploy the Mumbai capacity to Africa, “the core intercontinental business of Brussels Airlines”.
Lufthansa Group airlines, Lufthansa and SWISS, will continue to fly to Mumbai. Lufthansa uses a B747-8 and an A330-300 for a daily service to Frankfurt and Munich, respectively. SWISS deploys an A330-300 on its daily Zurich-Mumbai rotation.
Separately, Brussels Airlines has announced that the airline is making a significant investment in its long-haul product and on-board experience by gradually renewing the cabins of its ten A330 aircraft, launching a new business class, an updated economy class and, for the first time, a premium economy class in a separate cabin. The first refurbished aircraft will be ready in December.
