Delta Air Lines will resume growth in Asia-Pacific for the first time in seven years.
In recent years Delta has significantly restructured its Asia-Pacific network, de-hubbing Tokyo and instead launching new services, mostly to mainland China. Yet there was not yet growth.
“We have returned to growth for the first time in seven years,” EVP and CFO Paul Jacobson said during the airline’s first quarter results. Jacobson attributed growth opportunities to the result of an improved product, partners and fleet. Delta this summer will take delivery of the A330-900neo, which Jacobson expected would deliver a 5-10 point margin improvement over the aircraft they replace.
