Tony Fernandes celebrates new duty free partnership and then files judicial review. Read More »
A long-running dispute between AirAsia and the design, charges and upkeep of KLIA2 have brought AirAsia and airport operator MASSB to loggerheads. CEO AirAsia Group, Tony Fernandes, seems to want to show he and AirAsia are not against the airport totally, but rather want to change what they see as negative for passengers and growth.
Fernandes tweeted on May 12 about a new duty free business with the airport: “First partnership with Malaysian Airports after so many years. Look what can be achieved when we work together.”
Then on May 14, AirAsia and AirAsia X filed a judicial review against the Malaysian Aviation Commission (Mavcom) declining to intervene in the AirAsia-MASSB dispute. AirAsia has a claim of RM480 million (US$115 million). MASSB has filed suits related to the matter, including for defamation.
