First ARJ21 rolls out from new Shanghai production line. Read More »

The Mainland’s Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (COMAC) has rolled out the first ARJ21 from its second assembly line, a facility at Shanghai Pudong launched in March.

The ARJ21 has amassed 600 orders, according to the Financial Times (FT). The FT said near-term production would reach 30 aircraft a year in 2020, up from the planned 25 in 2019 and 15 in 2018. Approximately 100 ARJ21s would be delivered to customers over five years.

If production rates do not significantly increase and the 600 orders are all firm, it means production is sold out 20 years in advance. It is almost unheard that airlines agree to take aircraft two decades in advance.

Last month, the three major state-owned airlines, Air China, China Eastern and China Southern, simultaneously announced that each of them would buy 35 ARJ21s.
